hot, hot, hot!

I used to suffer from hot flashes, and to put it mildly, it was far from pleasant.


What an unpleasant experience that was! You’re completely out of it for a moment, then you need to recover, and afterward you either get cold—or sometimes it starts cold and the hot flash hits afterward. And of course, you always get a hot flash at the worst possible moment: at work, during a presentation, or in a store while trying on clothes. Never when you’re comfortably sitting on the couch thinking, “Go ahead, come on!”


Later, Ayurveda taught me that menopause (and menstruation, for that matter) doesn’t have to come with all these complaints and struggles and that your body’s balance can be restored.


That’s why I started exploring menopause, with special focus on hot flashes. I experienced it myself and unintentionally became an expert through personal experience.

Ayurveda offers solutions without hormone therapy or other medications. I became myself again, free of symptoms.


And life became beautiful once more, actually, even more beautiful than before!


I worked in advertising for 30 years and held executive positions for more than 25 years.

It was an incredibly busy, creative, and fun career but of course, it also came with an irregular lifestyle, a lot of stress, many unhealthy habits, and inevitably a period of severe overwork.

By the time I turned 50, I felt it was high time for a change, including in my work. My first step: I decided to stop taking the pill I had been on for 35 years. And sure enough, overnight, I found myself in menopause (which I had actually entered gradually without realizing it) and started experiencing hot flashes.

I had been on the pill for so long because, as a teenager, I suffered from extreme pain and heavy bleeding. Back then, I had no idea this wasn’t normal. My doctor told me it would be best to start the pill but only from age 16. So, I had to wait four more years!

Hooray, I turned 16! Instead of cake and decorations, I rushed to the doctor’s office for the pill. And yes! In one swoop, my problems were gone. Heaven on earth. Or was it?

When I entered menopause, I started reflecting on what I had actually done with my body all those years. I began to understand that we completely lose touch with our own bodies if we rely on “helpers” for so long. I had no clue about my own cycle and didn’t even realize I had entered menopause. And this is one of the biggest issues: we no longer know who we are. We are driven by chemicals and fail to adjust our behavior. We stop feeling, and we lose connection with a body that actually asks for something different than what we allow.

I also showed too little respect for my body. I pushed it hard even when it signaled the need for rest, different food, movement, or mental care. I ignored it all, thinking, “Just keep going, it will pass.”


But fortunately, I now know better.

Wisdom really does come with age. ;)
